Hawthorne Institute of Legends is located on Atemnity, a sister planet of Earth. Also founded during the Big Bang, these two planets have lived together in unison for billions of years. However, Atemnity works a little different from Earth. In the beginning, magic existed on both planets. When the universe was first forming, there were two beings – Chaos and Harmony, each representing the two sides of the spectrum, good and evil, light and dark, the original yin and yang. Both of them despised this balance and wanted to have a world without the other – Chaos wanting a land without Harmony and Harmony without Chaos. For thousands of years, these two powers fought, trying to get control and finally conquering the other. The climax of this eternal duel was during the Battle of Dredal, where the meeting of light and dark created a new being – Equipoise, the neutral force, one whose powers was neither good nor bad. Both Chaos and Harmony continued to fight, growing weaker and weaker until they destroyed each other. Neither of them are truly gone, but are simply belief or whispers that can be heard. From that point on, Equipoise slowly became one with Earth and Atemnity until it was physically apart of it. Equipoise was in the plants, in the water, in the air, and even in us.
As time went on, Atemnity cherished the magic that was in the air. Earth, on the other hand, did not. Earth polluted and destroyed almost all of the magic that existed, only small, random occurrences and moments where the magic reappears. This made the planets slightly different. Due to all of the methane in the universe, Atemnity’s sky is a much stronger rue and the grass, instead of green, happens to be white. The magic is still in the air too, which allows people from Atemnity or who who are on Atemnity, have the ability to “portal”, instant travel from one place to another. This is due to the magic in the air awakening parts of the brain that are shielded from those on Earth. This uncovering of specific lobes is what gives those living in Atemnity the ability to automatically have certain abilities, such as using portals. The magic in the air triggers a certain part of the brain that gives people some small differences when they are in Atemnity.
Time also runs a little different. One year is still one rotation around the Sun, however it is broken into 16 months instead of 12. Age is slightly different too; if someone is 30 on Earth, they are 22.5 on Atemnity. There are many characteristics that set the two planets apart, but, in the end, they are more connected and linked than many people realize.
Atemnity, unlike Earth, is comprised of seven different Kingdoms – Serelia, Everagil, Stoniel, Relerian, Chellearenth, Caivia, and Thallian, similar to the seven continents of Earth. Each are special in their own way and bring a lot to Atemnity as a whole.
Hawthorne is located in Relerian, surrounded by the Forest of Mist and the gorgeous mountains of Nyns Summit. It is in a safe location within the forest so only those who know exactly where they are going can stumble upon it, along with the immeasurable number of security protocols and magic that have been put up to protect the students. There is not much outside of Hawthorne, as it is located in an obscure location, however there is a big city – Faolens, about an hour away from the school, a favored place of Hawthorne students who enjoy going there on the weekends.
